Early Learning Center

Child at UNT Health Science Center

HSC, Lena Pope and the Miles Foundation are pleased to announce the Miles Foundation Early Learning Center is open and able to provide child care (for ages six weeks to five years) on our campus. The center, located at 3620 Modlin, is one more step in the journey to be a Best Place to Work.

Beyond providing childcare, Lena Pope Early Learning Centers offer a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that sets the tone for your child’s future success. Early childhood education is critical to the long-term success of children. We are dedicated to ensuring children are kindergarten-ready by integrating social-emotional learning alongside evidence-based curricula, encouraging family engagement, and offering low student-to-teacher ratios regardless of a families’ ability to pay.

What is the cost of tuition?

Lena Pope is committed to providing access to quality early learning for all children. That means Lena Pope accepts both private pay families and families that qualify for sliding scale tuition rates, scholarships, and subsidized childcare. Private pay rates are determined annually by comparing tuition costs of 10 to 15 area childcare centers and setting a rate that is below the mid-point. Lena Pope’s current private pay weekly rates are:

  • Infants $315
  • Toddlers $300
  • Preschool $265

Sliding scale rates are determined by gross income and the number of people in the home. Families interested in determining whether they qualify for a sliding scale tuition rate can contact Eva Rodriguez at erodriguez@lenapope.org or Sandye Zdanwic at szdanwic@lenapope.org or call 817-569-6255. Prior to finalizing a sliding scale rate, families must provide verification of income.

Who can enroll their children into care? Is preference given to HSC families?

Anyone with a child, ages 6 weeks to 5 years old, can enroll their child in care. First priority will be given to any HSC families wanting to enroll their child.

Does the HSC Early Learning Center provide part-time and/or summer care?

No. The center provides only year-round, full-time care.

What are the hours of operation?

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm.

How do I get on the waitlist? When is the best time to join?

To get on the waitlist, you must first attend a mandatory information session. You can contact Eva Rodriguez at erodriguez@lenapope.org or call 817-569-6255 to find out the next information session. We see openings over the summer months as students transition to their next class or into kindergarten. Applying for childcare in spring and summer is a great time to join our waitlist!

When can I see the center?

Please contact Eva Rodriguez at erodriguez@lenapope.org or call 817-569-6255 to schedule a tour.

Can I choose which campus I want my child to go to?

Yes. Lena Pope maintains a waitlist for both campuses and families can specify which campus they would like their child to attend. The priority for HSC families pertains ONLY to the HSC campus.

Do I have to be a current staff and/or student at HSC to qualify for a spot?

Yes. Only those who are current staff members and students at HSC at the time the child begins attending the Center will be eligible for priority placement. Children already attending the Center when/if a parent or caregiver separates from HSC as a staff or student will not be required to withdraw from care.
