Geriatric Scholarship for the Graduate Certificate in Academic Medicine

Dr. Janice Knebl sees patients during COVID on September 23, 2020.

As a leader in providing care to older adults, the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (HSC) Department of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics provides comprehensive services that help prevent and manage the chronic diseases and long-term illnesses that may accompany the aging process. Our health care team of board-certified geriatricians, specialized nurse practitioners, psychologists, neurologists, pharmacists, and licensed master social workers are committed to improving the function of our patients, promoting their best quality of life, and transforming the clinical training environment in order to improve geriatrics care.

To that aim, we also collaborate with other academic institutions, various internal departments, community partners, and even local volunteers to offer a number of opportunities to students, residents, caregivers, older adults, and healthcare professionals.

We are one of two Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Programs (GWEPs) in Texas, funded by a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant.  This grant, titled the Workforce Enhancement in Healthy Aging and Independent Living (WE HAIL) Program enables our department to sponsor interested geriatrics-focused faculty in the Graduate Certificate in Academic Medicine (GCAM) .

The Opportunity

This competitive opportunity is for faculty with an interest in developing a geriatric-focused education project for their GCAM fellowship. WE HAIL will partner with selected applicants over the course of their enrollment in the GCAM program, mentoring them in the development of an educational project for their academic institution, primary care, and/or community-based organizations in their area.  This educational project should be geriatric-focused and relate to one of the 5Ms.

  • registration to a professional conference (up to $1,000.00) to present your research
