Ethan William’s Experience at UNT Health

Ethan Williams

What do you value most about working here?

I value the interactions that I have with our students the most, very student affairsy I know. Starting my role last October, I didn’t interact much with students until the spring when I started the Orientation Leader hiring process. As I have worked with our OLs through training and New Student Orientation sessions, I have really gotten a lot of energy from working alongside them and learning more about them and their experience here at school!

What is an achievement you are proud of since joining UNT Health?

Besides a successful orientation season, made even more successful with assistance from the amazing CSL team and my incredible Orientation Leader staff, I feel proud of my growth as a professional. I started my Higher Education EdD at UNT this semester and am now the Co-Chair of the Admins in Graduate and Professional Student Services (AGAPSS) KC within NASPA!

How would you describe the team here in the DSA?

If I were going to choose one word to describe the DSA team, I would say “collaborative”. Everyone is always willing to help out and see where they can step in. In a role with a lot of moving parts, schedules, and working with campus partners, I really appreciate when people are flexible to help out, be it with the NSO Student Services Panels, Orientation Leader Training, or Welcome Week Events.

How do you balance work and personal life?

At 5:00, I close the laptop and take off my work hat for the day. Unless work requires it (ex: orientation season), I try to be intentional about really separating work and personal life. And I definitely track my flex time and use my vacation time!

What’s the last book you read or show you binge-watched?

I’m a voracious reader! The last book I finished was Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey and I am currently working my way through Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Oh man, my list is very long, but I would probably travel to Chamonix, France, the birthplace of mountain climbing!

What is a fun fact about you?

I have my private pilot’s license, dream of opening a bike/coffee shop, and am working on perfecting my homemade tortilla recipe!
