Dr. Lauren Carter’s Experience at HSC

Lc's Headshot

What attracted you to the HSC?

The HSC initially attracted me with its people and unique opportunities to work with students. When I started, we were exclusively a graduate health professional school. I was eager to engage more with this student population and help them develop the skills necessary for success inside and outside the classroom.

What is your team like?

My team is a positive, caring, and motivating group. We dedicate ourselves to compassionately meeting the diverse needs of our students and each other.

What is the most unique part about working here?

One of the most unique aspects of working at HSC is the diverse and inclusive culture. I have the privilege of engaging with colleagues and students from all the HSC academic programs, fostering a rich, collaborative environment that encourages continuous learning and innovation in our approach to education and support.

How have you grown professionally while working at the HSC?

Working at the HSC has significantly enhanced my professional growth by providing opportunities to present at conferences, participate in an Emmy-nominated news special, and develop innovative programs tailored to our unique student population. These experiences have deepened my expertise and broadened my impact in the field. Additionally, since joining in 2018, the HSC has allowed me to enhance my student interactions and skill set. I love connecting students to the resources they need to succeed while also ensuring they feel heard, valued, and seen.

What are three words that describe your typical day?

Three words to describe my work day are collaborative, innovative, and deadline-driven.
