SACSCOC Reaffirmation, Message from President Williams

Our original site visit, the final component of the SACSCOC reaffirmation process, was originally scheduled for April and as with everything else in the world, it was postponed due to COVID-19.  While it took a bit of a turn from the original plan, we were honored to “virtually” host the SACSCOC Site Team for three days last week and had our final closing session with them last Wednesday afternoon.

I am so incredibly proud to share that we received ZERO recommendations or findings, a superb and very rare outcome to this complex and comprehensive review and a true testament to the strengths of HSC, especially our extraordinary teamwork.  This could not have been accomplished without the outstanding leadership of Provost Taylor, Dr. Doug Mains, HSC SACSCOC Institutional Accreditation Liaison and the entire HSC Team including students, staff, and faculty.  Our HSC Team has been diligently preparing for our site visit for more than a year.  We also owe a debt of gratitude for the great support and participation from our UNT System Board of Regents’ Chair Laura Wright and Vice-Chair Milton Lee.

The Site Team commented that they were impressed with our cohesive leadership team; our financial planning and stability; long-standing leadership and the shared vision across campus; significant growth in research initiatives addressing areas relevant to our community needs; as well as our QEP and other initiative focused on our students’ wellbeing and commitment to their success.  Lastly, they commented that our strategic plans were clearly consistent with our HSC Purpose, Mission, Vision, and Values.

The commitment and dedication of our staff and faculty never ceases to amaze me and last week was no exception.  Every person involved in our reaffirmation did an outstanding job despite extenuating circumstances and I’m very appreciative for all the time, energy and effort that went into this process.  After we take a few days to reflect on and enjoy our success we will begin to look forward to accomplishing more great things together as we continue to raise the bar at HSC.
