Matthew Rossheim

Matt Rossheim, PhD ‘14

Program: PhD Behavioral and Community Health
Current role
: Assistant Professor at George Mason University

On a normal day in my position: I teach a research methods class and move forward research projects aimed at reducing substance use and related harm.

The most surprising thing about my work: How many amazing databases are freely available and underutilized.

The thing I love most about my work: It’s fun and helps make the world a better place.

My future career goals include: (1) Keep conducting research that I am excited about; (2) continue to refine my research aims to maximize my positive impact on public health and safety; and (3) provide quality mentorship for students on these projects.

One example of how I use my UNTHSC education in my role is: I use my education and training in nearly every aspect of my teaching, research, and mentorship.

Thinking back on my time at UNTHSC, I really appreciated: The high quality mentorship that I received from the faculty. They spent a lot of time helping me build the skills I needed to be successful in my current position.
