CHWI

According to Texas DSHS, Community Health Worker (CHW) instructors provide training to promotores de salud/CHWs or other CHW instructors. They know the role of a CHW, adult education methods, core competencies and curriculum development. CHW Instructors provide culturally-relevant education on a wide variety of health topics.

CHW Instructors must meet the following certification requirements:
Texas resident
At least 18 years old
Training- Completion of our approved DSHS certified 160-hour competency-based Community Health Worker Instructor training program showing proficiency teaching these Texas DSHS prescribed competencies:

1. Communication Skills
2. Service Coordination Skills
3. Teaching Skills
4. Interpersonal skills
5. Capacity-Building Skills
6. Organization Skills
7. Advocacy Skills
8. Knowledge Base Skills on Specific Health Issues
