50 Heroes: Dr. Alan R. Stockard

Dr. Alan StockardDr. Alan R. Stockard spent a career helping families and world-renowned athletes. A member of the Class of 1976, Dr. Stockard was an early part of TCOM’s history, and for decades he practiced family medicine and sports medicine across the nation and regionally.

He has been a hero to many.

Dr. Stockard was the Sports Medicine Director at Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation of Texas (SMART) at HSC and Associate Professor of Family Medicine at TCOM. He was actively involved in the athletic community in several capacities.

Locally, Dr. Stockard volunteered as the team physician for 10 local high schools and one of several physicians for the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. He was also the Medical Director of the Cowtown Marathon.

In 2002, he was elected the President of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. Dr. Stockard was a charter member of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Medical Advisory Committee, the governing body of high school athletics in Texas.

Nationally, he was a team physician for the Texas State Golden Glove Championships, the Sports Medicine Subcommittee of the USA Judo team and was part of the U.S. Olympic Committee drug control team.

While he is no longer actively practicing, the legacy of Dr. Stockard is one of dedicated service to the profession.
