IHD supports research and career development for students, post-docs and faculty through several initiatives.

Texas Center for Health Disparities (TCHD), a National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities (specialized Center of Excellence in Health Disparities (U54) was announced in 2017. The major focus on the center is women’s health with a U54 award for 2017 to 2022. TCHD’s mission is to prevent, reduce and eliminate health disparities in our communities through (1) Research (2) Education and Training and (3) Outreach

TCHD STAR Leadership/Pilot Project Program

• Provides intensive grant writing, mentoring and professional development training
• Awards pilot grant funding to facilitate faculty success in health disparity research
• Delivers team-based coaching and peer-interactions involving scientific and community experts
• Extends institutional support for continuing and renewal pilot projects to sustain faculty success
• Supplements scholar support for publications, networking, and professional development through our Center for Excellence (COE)

IHD Grant writing and Coaching Program

• Provides intensive grant writing, mentoring and professional development training for external partner institutions.
