Interprofessional Education and Practice Faculty Development: Certificates of Recognition and Distinction – Cohort III

Session Dates for 2019: Fridays, September 6, September 20, October 4, October 18, November 15, December 13, 11:30 am – 1:00 PM.

Printable Brochure

To earn the IPEP Certificate:

  1. Attend and participate in all six 1.5-hour interactive sessions held at UNTHSC from 11:30 am – 1:00 PM (lunch provided).
  2. Complete pre-work Canvas and IHI online modules for each in-person session, which includes no more than 2 hours of preparation.
  3. Complete the Team Based PSA project.

To earn the IPEP Distinction:

An IPEP Faculty Distinction will be offered to faculty who have:

  1. Completed the IPEP Faculty Development Certificate of Recognition requirements (1-3 above).
  2. Partner with at least one other faculty member from a different profession to design, develop, implement and assess an approved interprofessional learning experience with students or trainees of two or more professions. A proposal for this is submitted via Canvas.
  3. Demonstrate additional scholarship by sharing the outcomes of their IPEP learning experience at professional conferences or through publication of an educational research article.

1. Demonstrate the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of dynamic interprofessional collaborative teamwork through creation of an innovative interprofessional education and practice public service video.

2. Promote and encourage student and faculty awareness of interprofessional collaboration in education and practice through a public service video to be shared with faculty and students.

1. Leadership, communication, situation monitoring, and mutual support tools and strategies will be utilized to improve team performance across four teamwork solutions.

Specific strategies include:

    • Effective leadership and effective team member characteristics
    • A shared mental model, task assignments, briefs, huddles, and debriefs
    • Closed loop communication
    • Situational awareness, situation monitoring, and cross monitoring

2. The SBAR, CUS, and Two Challenge Rule will be introduced to aid in effective team communication.

  1. Solve clues and puzzles related to interprofessional education and practice and patient safety.
  2. Apply the knowledge, skills and attitudes of collaborative IPEP to solve an IPEP escape room within a set time limit.
  3. Use TeamSTEPPS skills (consider making it so that each team is reliant on the other teams in order to break out.)
