Department Overview

The International Services Office provides immigration and advising services to the diverse HSC campus. The office assists students, scholars and employment-based visa holders with navigating complex immigration regulations. Through individual consultations, workshops and written information, the ISO helps more than 200 foreign nationals maintain compliance with their individual visa requirements. Signature Programs and Services

ISO provides orientation for all international students, scholars and employees in an effort to make the transition to life in the United States as smooth as possible.

Team members assist faculty mentors and administrative personnel on visa sponsorship for foreign nationals. The office also facilitates the permanent residency sponsorship process by liaising with contracted outside legal counsel, sponsoring departments and HSC employee beneficiaries.

The ISO staff hosts various presentations and workshops for students to learn about their employment benefits, find ways to help them transition to living in the U.S., and promote cultural awareness among international students, faculty and domestic students.

ISO offers tax assistance to students on an F-1 or J-1 visa type by purchasing access to software that assists students and scholars in filing their taxes and providing general guidance on the tax process.

Collaborative Initiatives

Airport Pickup

ISO partnered with the Admissions & Recruitment team to provide van services to pick up and drop off international students from the airport.

Academic Integrity Awareness

The department partnered with the Office of Care and Civility for International Student’s Orientation Day to discuss the impact of academic integrity violations. The ISO team also shared academic resources and strategies with students to help build their self-seeking behaviors.

Immigration Attorney Consultant

ISO partnered with the Career Readiness Center to host a session between international students and an immigration attorney to discuss employment-seeking resources and post-graduation plans.
