Public health students win two national awards

Two UNTHSC School of Public Health students have received national recognition for their academic accomplishments.
DrPH candidate Brittany Marshall, MPH, CPH, CHES, has been selected as one of five U.S. scholars to participate in this year’s AcademyHealth Diversity Scholars Network.
The goal of the Network is to support and mentor the professional development of underrepresented racial/ethnic minority groups in the field of health services research. As part of the program, Ms. Marshall will receive a scholarship to attend the organization’s annual research meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in June.
Behavioral and Community Health PhD student Stephanie Spohr received the Student Poster of Distinction Award at the recent American Academy of Health Behavior 2015 Scientific Meeting.
Ms. Spohr’s presentation was based on the MAPIT program, a Web-based intervention to increase motivation for substance abuse treatment among probationers in the U.S. criminal justice system.
Her poster focused on the role of electronic reminders to assist an at-risk population in setting and following short-term goals.
