Department of Physical Therapy Students and Faculty Represent HSC at APTA CSM

Recently, HSC Department of Physical Therapy students and faculty travelled to San Diego, California for the American Physical Therapy Association’s (APTA) annual Combined Section Meeting (CSM.)

This event drew over 15,000 participants from around the country to gather as physical therapists, academics, scholars, and students to network, educate, learn together, and explore the interests of physical therapy to promote the profession.

Attendees were eligible to submit their research for a poster or podium presentation. These submissions went through a peer-review process. We’re thrilled to share that several of our students and faculty were selected for poster and even podium presentations!

Kristin Berg, SPT and Randy Cornejo, SPT gave a podium presentation on the topic “The Impact of Psychological Safety in the Clinical Learning Environment for Physical Therapist Students.”

Gregory Kyle Aiken, SPT, Micah Bennett, SPT, and Charles Nichols, PT, DPT presented their poster, “Relationship of Hypercholesterolemia on Tendon Health.”

Leslie Ayers, PT, DPT, presented her poster, “Optimizing Clinical Education for the Generation Z Student.”

Mindy Brummett, PT, DPT, Meredith Porteous, SPT, Katelyn Ranes, SPT, and Samantha Ferraro, SPT presented their poster “Physical Therapy Interventions to Improve Quality of Life and Lumbopelvic Pain in Pregnant Women.”

Charles Nichols, PT, DPT presented the poster “Effect of Electro-Acupuncture for Coma Patients after Traumatic Brain Injury.”

Myles Quiben, PT, DPT, MS, PhD gave a podium presentation on “Simulation Based Education in Physical Therapy Education and Research.”

Alexandra Castillo, SPT and Nety Duenas, SPT gave a poster presentation on their research “What Are the Impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on Childhood Development?”

Charles Nichols, PT, DPT presented the poster “Efficacy of High-Frequency Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in Fibromyalgia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.”

Myles Quiben, PT, DPT, MS, PhD, presented the poster “The 5 M’s of Geriatrics: The missing Link in Movement System Framework.”
