White Coat ceremony set for July 23

The UNT Health Science Center will welcome 240 incoming Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM) students, 70 incoming Physician Assistant Studies students and 40 incoming Physical Therapy students into the medical profession at the annual White Coat Ceremony at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, at the Will Rogers Auditorium, 3401 West Lancaster.

Students will don white coats symbolizing their careers in medicine. This event encourages a psychological contract for professionalism and empathy, and the incoming students will take an oath acknowledging their responsibilities and willingness to assume the obligations of their new professions.

Bernard Rubin, DO, MPH, division chief of Rheumatology at the Henry Ford Health System, will present the keynote address. Rubin was an employee of the Health Science Center for 26 years before moving to Michigan. Gail Strange, former Chair of the UNT System Board of Regents, will receive the TCOM Founders’ Medal. The Honorable Kenneth Barr, former Mayor of the City of Fort Worth, will receive the Mary E. Luibel Distinguished Service Award.

For more information on the White Coat Ceremony, contact the Student Development Office at 817-735-2775.
