Vote for Andras Lacko’s research team to win $50,000 TeamConnor grant

Andras Lacko, PhD, Professor of Molecular Biology and Immunology at UNT Health Science Center, is one of three finalists for a $50,000 research grant from TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation.

After narrowing hundreds of submitted research projects down to three, the foundation is allowing the public to choose the winner. You can vote for Lacko’s research team to win by logging onto Facebook and “liking” the TeamConnor Facebook page. Just click on the “Community Choice Grant” box to vote. You may vote for the Lacko project once daily per Facebook account through Dec. 27.

Most cancer cells, including neuroblastoma cells, crave HDL, or “good” cholesterol. Lacko’s work uses nanoparticles to deliver anti-cancer medications directly to the cholesterol-hungry cancer cells while avoiding damage to healthy cells, thus preventing the devastating effects of chemotherapy.

TeamConnor is dedicated to spreading awareness, supporting families and raising funds for childhood cancer research.  It has awarded more than $1.2 Million in research grant funding in the last five years.
