UNT Health Science Center hosts diverse science students from SACNAS conference

On Oct. 15, 70 undergraduate students who are part of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) will tour the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth as part of the Health Science Center’s sponsorship of the 2009 SACNAS conference.

The tour will feature demonstrations in the patient simulation lab, microflorescence facility and forensic genetics lab, as well as a public health outbreak simulation.

In addition, U.S. Army Major Robert Carter III, who earned his PhD in biomedical science and Master of Public Health degrees from the UNT Health Science Center, will be the keynote speaker at the larger conference on Wednesday evening, Oct. 14, at the Sheraton Hotel Dallas.

Carter serves as deputy director for technology of medical systems in the office of the assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics, and technology at The Pentagon. Carter was selected as the first U.S. Army physiologist assigned in France as part of a Department of Defense effort to promote international cooperation in military research, development, and acquisition through the exchange of defense scientists and engineers.
