Pediatric Mobile Clinic officially hits the road

UNT Health Science Center’s Pediatric Mobile Clinic officially hits the road the first week of May, bringing high-quality health care directly to children living in underserved areas of Fort Worth.

The specially equipped state-of-the-art mobile clinic will provide examinations for routine physicals, sick visits, immunizations, screenings and laboratory testing. The clinic also will focus on providing significant patient-centered health education in nutrition, physical activity and dental health.

The goal of the mobile program is to improve the quality of care and the overall health of children by bringing interventions directly to the populations at highest risk and to control rising health care costs by increasing health promotion and disease prevention.

“We are thrilled to bring this new program to our Fort Worth families,” said Laura Standish, Director of the Clinic. “By bringing health care services directly to the community, we will help our families overcome the traditional barriers to health care access. The Pediatric Mobile Clinic will truly improve the health and wellness of children living in our underserved communities, and we are compassionately dedicated to making a difference one child at a time. ”

The mobile program will be launched officially at Morningside Middle School at 11 a.m. on April 29. Morningside will be one of the locations where the mobile unit will be stationed each week.

The Pediatric Mobile Clinic will be staffed by an experienced team of bilingual clinical professionals from UNTHSC. The interprofessional mobile team will include a board-certified pediatrician, registered nurse, licensed vocational nurse, social worker, medical assistants and other health care professionals. It will include a research team led by a PhD in pediatric epidemiology.
