Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Award, Citations Presented at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine Senior Awards Banquet

Heather Volkman, DO, was presented with the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Award at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine senior awards banquet.

The Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Award is presented by the American Medical Women’s Association to those women who graduate first in their class from medical schools throughout the country.

The following students were the recipients of Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citations at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicineâ??s senior awards banquet:

· Shirley Shiller, DO

· Jaclyn LeVan, DO

Janet M. Glasgow Citations of Achievement are presented by the American Medical Women’s Association to those women who graduate with academic distinction from medical schools throughout the country. These women graduate in the top 10 percent of their class.

Dr. Volkman, a native of Fort Worth, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Emory University. She will complete her residency in a rotating internship at University Hospital Health Sciences Richmond Heights Hospital in Richmond Heights, Ohio.

Dr. Campbell, a native of Grapevine, earned a Master of Science degree in dietetics and nutrition from Texas Womanâ??s University. She will complete her residency in emergency medicine at University of Texas Medical School in Houston.

Dr. Thigpen, a native of Temple, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Abilene Christian University. She will complete her residency in anesthesiology at Hershey Medical Center/Penn State in Hershey, Penn.

Dr. Gartman, a native of Flower Mound, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from University of Georgia. She will complete her residency in obstetrics/gynecology at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Dr. Houston, a native of Arlington, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M University. She will complete her residency in general surgery at Plaza Medical Center in Fort Worth.

Dr. DiRienzo, a native of Plano, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Texas in Austin. She will complete her residency in psychiatry at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.

Dr. Shiller, a native of Dallas, earned a Master of Science degree in physical therapy from Texas Womanâ??s University. She will complete her residency in pathology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Dr. LeVan, a native of San Antonio, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Texas A&M University. She will complete her residency in pediatrics at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.

All of the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement recipients received doctor of osteopathic medicine degrees from TCOM.

The senior awards banquet was held May 19 at the Fort Worth Club.
