HSC President Gives Grand Rounds Presentation

Scott Ransom, DO, MBA, MPH, president of the UNT Health Science Center, will be the featured Grand Rounds presenter at noon Wednesday, Sept. 13, in Luibel Hall, EAD 108, at the health science center.

Dr. Ransom will present â??Interdisciplinary Approaches to Help Solve Pregnancy Outcome Disparities,â? which he also presented at the Texas Conference on Health Disparities June 4.

Dr. Ransom will explain research he is conducting that examines the occurrence of low birth weight and preterm births in minority populations. The project is funded by the National Institutes of Health.

The current research takes social, behavioral and health system factors into consideration, including racial disparities.

Grand Rounds are updates designed to enhance professional expertise and sharpen problem-solving skills. The lectures are open to medical school faculty, attending physicians, community physicians, residents, allied health professionals and others interested in the latest health-care related information.

Dr. Ransomâ??s presentation is supported by the health science centerâ??s Texas Center for Health Disparities and the Office of Professional and Continuing Education (PACE).

Attendees will earn 1 hour of category 1A credit from the American Osteopathic Association; 1 credit for category 1 of the Physicianâ??s Recognition Award from the American Medical Association; and 1.2 contact hours from the Texas Nurses Association, which is an accredited approver of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Centerâ??s Commission on Accreditation.
