Paun Peters’ interest in collectible automobiles started when he was 16 and spotted a Shelby Mustang in his neighbor’s driveway.

The sight of that high-performance muscle car eventually would lead him to start his own classic car collection and visit automobile auctions across the country, including the Mecum Auction in Monterey, Calif., this summer.

That’s where Mr. Peters successfully bid on a 1953 MG TD Roadster – a preserved, protected and personalized British classic that will be raffled Nov. 6 at UNT Health Science Center’s second annual “An Evening with a Legend” fundraiser, this year featuring Jay Leno.

It seemed only natural to raffle off a classic car at an event headlined by Leno, a famous car collector who owns 130 classics and hosts the popular online “Jay Leno’s Garage.” Mr. Peters and his wife, Magdaline, graciously donated the classic MG to support the institution’s education, discovery and health care mission – Creating Solutions for a Healthier Community. Raffle tickets are $100 each. Only 1,000 will be sold.

“I was looking for a car that would create excitement,” said Mr. Peters, President of Western Production Company in Fort Worth. “It has beautiful styling and, to me, evokes the image of cruising the English countryside with the top down.”

The MG TD Roadster was among England’s famous Midget Cars during the 1950s. Superbly restored, this road-ready automobile includes a convertible canvas top, five chrome wire-spoke wheels and a spectacular two-tone maize/caramel finish.

The car is not designed for highway driving but rather cruising at moderate speeds, Mr. Peters said. It will appeal to both experienced collectors and automobile enthusiasts interested in starting collections.

As a bonus, every raffle ticket purchased benefits the UNTHSC mission, he said.

“We are very fortunate to have a quality, highly recognized institution like the Health Science Center in Fort Worth,” Mr. Peters said. “This is a great way to support all that the institution does to improve health care in our community.”
