TCOM led initiative opens a newly established Lactation room for breastfeeding mothers across HSC

Lactation room

Lactation roomBreastfeeding mothers at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth now have a private space as the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Medical Student Success has opened the newly established Lactation Room.

The room, located in MET 454, is private and secluded, designed specifically for breastfeeding mothers who need support when returning to work or studying on campus. The room is open to all HSC faculty, staff and students.

“This is a testimony to our commitment to helping all of our faculty, staff and students that are returning to work and school after having a baby,” said Dr. Rynn Ziller, TCOM assistant dean of medical student success.”

The unique creation of the lactation room had the goal of providing a private, comfortable and welcoming environment for new mothers. The room contains ambient lighting, a recliner, a chairside desk, pillows, power strips for multiple plug-ins and devices, a large sink and a cabinet with drawers.

The room also has lockers to store pump equipment if needed, along with a modular refrigerator for the temporary storage of breastmilk and a restroom nearby.

“This is a true testament to our medical student success initiative, the Medical Student Success team and making things like this happen,” said Dr. Frank Filipetto TCOM Dean and Everett Endowed Professor.

“I’m incredibly proud of this effort to give breastfeeding mothers across our entire campus their own space.”
