The Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth has named Priya Bui, DO, CPPS, FAAP chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Women’s Health. Dr. Bui, a 2011 TCOM graduate who has served as interim chair since March 2021, is the first female chair of the department.  

“I am honored to have Dr. Bui as our new chair of Pediatrics and Women’s Health,” said Dr. Frank Filipetto, Everett Endowed Professor and TCOM dean. “Dr. Bui has done terrific work at TCOM as the interim chair and also since returning to school in 2014. I know she will do an incredible job to continue the growth of the department, and we are thrilled to have her as our new chair.” 

Bui has been with the Department of Pediatrics and Women’s Health since 2014, and she has been the clinical chief of pediatrics since 2017.  

“I am honored with the official appointment as chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Women’s Health,” she said. “The opportunity to work as a leader for an institution I can give back to and a department I know and cherish so much is very important, as well as impacting TCOM students, especially in their training in the care of women and children.” 

Upon graduating from TCOM, Bui completed her residency training at the Oklahoma University Pediatric Residency in Tulsa. She was the Graduate Pediatric Residency Program Physician of the Year in 2014. She returned to TCOM in 2014 as an assistant professor of pediatrics.  

“As a TCOM graduate myself, I have been where the students are,” she said. “I leverage my memories as motivation to always think of ways to foster the potential for growth of our students.”   

One of the most passionate practitioners, Bui created a new PharmD initiative that cares for pediatric asthma patients using a pharmacy-led model. She is the developer for innovations such as the pediatric mental health wellness calls program and a drive-up vaccine option protocol for patients that came about during the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Bui is on the Medical Education Academic Committee at Cook Children’s Hospital, a physician leader for Healthy Steps and served on the Asthma 411 Medical Advisory Council. She also is serving on the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Pediatric Leadership committee and is a NBOME National Faculty Member. Bui is a member of the Clinical Advisory Board of NorTex, which is a research network operating at HSC.  

She also serves as a faculty advisor for the Pediatric Club, South Asian Medical Students Association TCOM Osteopathic College of Pediatricians. Bui is a mentor for the student Pediatric Research Program and was the director and founder of the Teen Clinic. Bui has served as a member of the Education Committee and Quality Improvement Committee at HSC. She is a current member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Students Association and the Texas Medical Association.  

She was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in 2017 and served on the Gold Humanism Advisory Committee from 2018 to 2020.  

Bui was the recipient of the Pediatric Teacher of the Year in 2016, 2018 and 2020 at HSC. She has been named a Top Doctor by Fort Worth Magazine for seven straight years since 2016. DFW Magazine also named her a Top Doctor in 2018 and 2019. Bui received the “Mom Approved Award” in 2017 and 2021 from Fort Worth Child Magazine.
