TCOM Student re-appointed to national student organization’s board
Sabri Zooper’s work on a national level for the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM) and osteopathic medicine is continuing for another year. The fourth-year TCOM student has been re-appointed to the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) Board of Directors for a second year as the National Osteopathic Affairs Committee Co-Chairperson.
Zooper will serve a one-year term. The SNMA is the nation’s oldest and largest independent, student-run organization focused on the needs and concerns of medical students of color.
“What an honor to be given the chance to finish what I started last year as OSC Chair,” said Zooper. “This year, my goal is to solidify long lasting partnerships with other outstanding student groups like the COSGP, SOMA and so many more. In addition, I plan to continue developing student leadership opportunities within the AOA and AACOM to ensure that students’ voices are heard and acknowledged.”
At the 2021 virtual SNMA Annual Medical Education Conference held in April, medical students and professionals attended a wide range of educational and networking events. It is consistently the largest gathering of underrepresented minority medical students at any time of the year in any place in the nation.
As the Osteopathic Schools Committee Co-Chair, Zooper is set to establish and build lasting relationships between the SNMA and leading Osteopathic organizations such as the AOA, AACOM, SOMA and TOMA. In this role, she is also dedicated to representing the needs and concerns of osteopathic students within all 10 regions of the SNMA.
“I will continue supporting all minority osteopathic student within the SNMA membership body with resources, networking opportunities, and mentors in efforts to help them reach their dreams of becoming physicians.”
SNMA was founded in 1964 by medical students from Howard University College of Medicine and Meharry Medical College. With chapters across the nation, SNMA membership includes over 7,000 medical students, pre-medical students and physicians.
