The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth was designated a “Best Place for Working Parents” at Mayor Betsy Price’s State of the City Luncheon.

HSC President Dr. Michael R. Williams said the university made a conscious decision to make building a sustainable people culture a strategic goal and to create innovative programs and policies that increase team member satisfaction and engagement. HSC started with an assessment of family-friendly policies that positively impact employee recruitment, retention, satisfaction and productivity. Then HSC executed the plan.

“Our people told us that being a family-friendly organization where working parents feel valued and supported is an important part of becoming what we call A Best Place for All,” Dr. Williams said. “This designation is a testament to the HSC’s commitment to fulfilling our goal.”

Initiatives cited in the assessment included HSC’s partnership with Lena Pope and the Miles Foundation to open the Lena Pope Early Learning Center to offer on-campus, affordable early learning for the children of employees and students. Flexible work arrangements were created and utilized when needed in appropriate areas of the campus.

The university also opened the Priority Care Clinic that provides on-campus care to employees and their families, and launched SmartDollar, an online financial wellness program from Dave Ramsey, to help employees and students set and reach financial goals.
