50 Heroes: Dean Conine, Grounds Foreman
At HSC, the grass is green, the trees are trimmed, and the flowers are in bloom thanks to the care and passion of Dean Conine.
The Grounds Foreman was long committed to ensuring that campus was beautiful and safe for team members and guests. His hard work and attention to detail made HSC a Best Place for All.
Dean was instrumental in planning, executing and maintaining the HSC Community Garden, which promotes health and wellness on campus and in the community. He obtained his Master Gardner certification, led a group that built our garden plots, worked to secure donations to help fund the garden’s needs, and provided educational tours to elementary schools. Every spring, he grew a large, off-campus garden and donated the harvest to the Johnson County Food Bank.
Dean’s work to revitalize the MET field gave our students and employees a large, open recreational space to relax, play football or throw a Frisbee. After severe weather, he was dedicated to helping make sure no damage or hazards went unaddressed.
We are grateful to Dean for making HSC a beautiful place.
