UNT Health Science Center has awarded Bob Ferguson its Vision Award, the university’s highest community service recognition for his tireless efforts to raise UNTHSC’s stature in the community.

Ferguson, a Fort Worth businessman, has volunteered his time and innovative strategic thinking since he joined the UNTHSC Foundation Board in 2009.

“For more than 10 years, Bob has shared his considerable business and entrepreneurial talents with the Health Science Center,” said Dr. Michael R. Williams, UNTHSC President. “He is a generous and consistent champion for UNTHSC, and we are grateful for his leadership and vision.”

Ferguson has impacted many areas of UNTHSC. While serving on the Applied Genetics Council, he encouraged expansion of the University’s Center for Human Identification and proposed strategies to maximize its impact and service to families.

Ferguson has been a generous donor, supporting a variety of priority needs. Most recently, his support of the new Interdisciplinary Research and Education Building was recognized through the naming of a large, ground-floor student lounge. He also has philanthropically supported educational priorities, such as an endowed student award in the UNT System College of Pharmacy, student scholarships, and the annual Legends Concert Series.

He also has been a driving force in the creation of Cx Precision Medicine Inc., a company formed in support of UNTHSC Professor Sid O’Bryant’s development of a blood test for detection of Alzheimer’s disease, and its potential to predict impactful therapeutic strategies.

Ferguson served as UNTHSC Foundation Board Chairman from 2014 to 2016 and currently chairs the Directorship Committee that identifies and cultivates new board members.

Ferguson said he was honored to receive the 2019 Vision Award and is excited to be a part of the University’s future.

“Everything about UNT Health Science Center keeps getting bigger and better — new buildings on campus, world-class research and top-notch education programs,” Ferguson said. “UNTHSC has a great culture, and Fort Worth is fortunate to have it.”
