Blood donors needed as supplies run low

Carter BloodCare, which supplies blood for our area and several surrounding counties, is in a blood emergency and all types are needed.

Due to the holidays, flu season and higher usage in the area, Carter BloodCare is calling for all hands on deck.

You can help by donating blood at our next drive, Thursday, Jan. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Look for the Carter BloodCare bus.

You can make an appointment in advance, or just walk in.

If you donate on Jan. 24, you’ll get a Dallas Mavericks reward of a special Mavs T-shirt and buy-one-get-one tickets.

We host blood drives six times a year. In 2018, we totaled 194 units of life-saving blood.

“Each unit can save or enhance up to three lives, so that’s over 500 lives touched in our community,” said Colleen Horan, Field Recruitment Consultant for Carter BloodCare. “On behalf of our hospital patients, thank you so much.”

Blood donation is one of the ways we create healthier communities. Our blood drives are open to all students, faculty, staff and the public. Most people who are in good general health can donate. To check your eligibility, please visit this site.

In addition to Jan. 24, blood drives are set for March 21 and May 16.
