Student government presidents and vice presidents from every osteopathic medical school in the United States will convene at UNT Health Science Center for their annual national meeting.

It’s the first time in 15 years that UNTHSC’s Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine has hosted the annual meeting of student leaders from the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine. This year’s Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents’ meeting is scheduled for Friday through Sunday in Fort Worth.

All UNTHSC students are encouraged to attend a research symposium at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library.

“This is a huge win for our campus,” said Kelly Sanders, President of the TCOM Medical Student Government Association. “We are excited to network with other osteopathic medical students from around the country while our faculty get exposure to students from different institutions.

The AACOM Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents holds a series of meetings each year but only one is held at a college of osteopathic medicine. The meetings are an opportunity to collaborate with students from other schools, hear from expert speakers and discuss current events affecting the osteopathic profession.

For the host school, the meeting also is a chance to showcase its campus and innovative research projects by students, staff and faculty, Sanders said.

“We’re proud of the contributions we have made to evidence-based medicine,” Sanders said. “From a student-leadership perspective, hosting this meeting will inspire our student body to remain engaged in current events and policies within the osteopathic medical profession.”

The Council of Osteopathic Student Governments Presidentswas established in 1972.
