Brandy Schwarz, DPT, is an educator, mentor and innovator.

The UNT Health Science Center Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy adopts all three roles as she prepares students to become health care providers of the future.

The Fort Worth Business Press will honor Dr. Schwarz for her impact on students and in the community April 25 by recognizing her as a member of the “40 Under 40” class of 2018.

The annual awards “recognize successful young professionals who are outstanding in their industries and communities. They are leaders today and part of the next generation that will continue to make Tarrant County a great place to live and work.”

Since she joined UNTHSC in 2011, Dr. Schwarz has excelled at honing her students’ physical therapy clinical skills, as well as their emotional intelligence and leadership abilities. She spends considerable time mentoring young women in the program.

Dr. Schwarz is creative in her approach to education and collaboration. She coordinates interprofessional activities between physical therapy students and other disciplines, and founded a physical therapy job fair that matches students with prospective employers. She pursues international clinical education partnerships that benefit her students and Fort Worth.

She also has been active as a fundraiser, board member and event committee coordinator for several nonprofit organizations in Fort Worth.

“Dr. Schwarz deserves to be honored not only for her long list of accomplishments but more so for the positive, meaningful impact she has on students, clinicians and the community,” said Nicoleta Bugnariu, Interim Dean of the UNTHSC School of Health Professions. “She is the servant leader, role model and inspiration a community needs for its young women.”
