A spirit of family and teamwork

Bibas Reddy

Bibas Reddy, DO, medical oncologist at The Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders, has long considered UNT Health Science Center family.

His brother, Hari Reddy, DO, and sister-in-law, Chandana Reddy, DO, both attended Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at the same time as Dr. Reddy. And several of his close friends from TCOM practice medicine in North Texas, often meeting for dinner or family outings.

“The campus has grown and some of the faces have changed,” said Dr. Reddy (TCOM ’02, MPH ‘02). “But what hasn’t changed is the university’s spirit of family and teamwork.”

Today, Dr. Reddy uses that same approach in the way he treats his patients — like family.

At the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, Dr. Reddy is part of a respected team of cancer specialists that includes medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, nurses, patient navigators, pharmacists, psychologists and other support services. His team provides a holistic approach towards patients based on the osteopathic principles instilled in him early in his education.

“We understand that a cancer diagnosis is the beginning of a journey,” Dr. Reddy said. “We realize that a cancer diagnosis is a life-changing event not just for the patient, but their entire family. And understanding that the physician is there to guide one through that journey creates a connection like no other specialty in medicine.”

Dr. Reddy joined the practice in 2007. He has been recognized as a “Top Doctor” by Fort Worth, Texas magazine for the past several years.

He is proud to give back to the UNTHSC family by caring for employees and their families. TCOM Chair of Surgery Albert Yurvati, DO, PhD, sent his wife, Sharon, to Dr. Reddy after she was diagnosed with cancer.

“I trusted Dr. Reddy to care for the most precious person in my life,” Dr. Yurvati said. “He is a fantastic oncologist — knowledgeable, compassionate and approachable.”

Dr. Reddy credits TCOM for instilling those traits.

“As a patient, you want to think of your doctor as someone who really cares about you and is standing with you during a battle like cancer,” Dr. Reddy said. “And that’s how TCOM taught me to treat people.”
