2016 Interprofessional Practice Symposium – June 1st and 2nd

UNTHSC is committed to developing collaborative practice-ready health professionals. We believe that collaborative practice competencies need to be a part of each health professions’ curriculum and that Interprofessional student experiences provide students an opportunity to practice collaboration skills. Students who have opportunities to learn about, from and with students of other health professions will be better disposed to collaborative efforts as practitioners.

Interprofessional Education is an avenue to prepare students for Interprofessional Practice. Interprofessional Practice (IPP) involves multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds working together with patients and their families to deliver the highest quality of health care and patient safety.

Each UNTHSC college/school participates in our institutional IPE initiatives and in the planning of IPE events. Your college/school has a Dean appointed faculty member as your profession’s IPE coordinator. The IPE coordinators for all colleges/schools, along with the Department of Interprofessional Education and Practice and our Institutional Partners, meet regularly as an IPE Curriculum Committee to plan, coordinate, and refine our IPE student activities.

Faculty and preceptors are able to influence student attitudes toward Interprofessional Practice by promoting, educating, and modeling collaborative practice competencies and bringing Interprofessional experiences into course curriculum and clinics.

The Department of Interprofessional Education and Practice is committed to helping you, our faculty and preceptors, in your education and practice. Online UNTHSC IPE/P development modules are available in CANVAS. Contact Cynthia.carroll@unthsc.edu for access.
