How did you get interested in becoming a pharmacist?
My mom had a significant health issue where medicine made a direct, positive outcome for her health. After that, I knew that I wanted to be involved in healthcare. In undergraduate school, I landed a job as a pharmacy technician where I was able to see the positive impact that medicine had on others. That job and reflecting on my mom and her health journey made it apparent that becoming a pharmacist was the path I should take.
What did the financial achievement award mean to you and your goal in pursuing a PharmD degree?
It meant a great deal to me, to be recognized for the hard work I put in and to be rewarded for it. It lessened a bit of my first semester’s financial burden. I am grateful to have received the scholarship.
Have you overcome any challenges on your journey to get here?
A challenge I have faced is test taking anxiety and performance anxiety. It is not something that I have overcome yet, but am still working on it. I know that God put me on this path for a reason and He will see me through it.
What are your future career aspirations?
I plan to pursue a post-graduate residency. I am interested in ambulatory care pharmacy and academia. My dream job would to be able to do both, like several of our professors on campus.
What advice would you give to students considering pharmacy school?
My advice is to believe in yourself. Do not let what others say influence you; follow your heart. Let your passion become a reality by continuing your hard work.
