What does Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month mean to you?

AAPI month holds great significance to me as it celebrates and honors the diverse cultures, histories, and contributions of individuals with Asian and Pacific Islander backgrounds. This month serves as a reminder of the rich tapestry of experiences and achievements within the AAPI community and provides an opportunity for education, reflection, and appreciation.

The Asian Pharmacists Association chapter embodies these attributes through service-learning opportunities by collaborating with organizations such as the Colorful World Foundation and Hand-in-Hand. We were able to administer numerous flu shots, COVID shots and provided blood sugar checks and point-of-care tests. We also organized two Vietnamese sandwich (Banh mi) fundraisers to give our community the opportunity to experience Asian food. This past school year, APA was lucky to have different Asian pharmacists guest speakers who were experts in their respected fields to share their experience and advice.

Ultimately, AAPI Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the richness and vibrancy of Asian American and Pacific Islander cultures, to acknowledge their contributions, and to strive for a more inclusive and equitable society where diversity is embraced and celebrated year-round.

How are you inspired by your heritage in your work, studies or endeavors?

I often draw inspiration from my Vietnamese cultural heritage to shape my identity and values. This can influence my work by emphasizing traits such as perseverance, discipline and a strong work ethic. I strive to embody these values in my professional endeavors and academic pursuits.

What is your proudest moment in pharmacy school?

Overall, just making it this far in pharmacy school, and one step closer to becoming a pharmacist. I understand my limitation, and I am beyond proud of myself for my perseverance and resilience. To be more specific, it is becoming a member of Phi Lambda Sigma, an international pharmacy leadership society.

What are your career aspirations?

I would like to continue to develop my skills, experience, and understanding in hospital/clinical pharmacy. I enjoy working directly with healthcare teams, providing expertise in medication therapy management and optimizing a patient’s outcome. At the same time, I also enjoy interacting directly with patients, providing consults on medication usage and offering general health advice in the community setting.
