Updating Your Canvas Profile

The beginning of the semester is a great time to update your Canvas profile. Below are the most common settings edited by users:

  • Profile picture: Click on the account icon at the top of the Canvas global navigation. In the window that opens, click on settings. Click on the account icon and navigate to the location of the desired image. Adjust the image within the circle and click save. You’re all set!
  • Notifications: Click on the account icon at the top of the Canvas global navigation and click on Notifications. This reveals the various options for notifications. For students, it is recommended that Announcements are set to Notify Immediately. A student may also want to consider immediate or daily notifications for Conversations (Inbox) or Course Content. Other notification options include Daily Summary, Weekly Summary, and Notifications Off.
  • In Settings on the left, faculty, staff, and students, can add an additional email for notifications. Once the email is added, you will see two columns (one for each email) for notifications.
  • *NEW for 2024*: NameCoach is a new tool integrated into Canvas that lets you record your name so that the other Canvas users can know how to pronounce it. Whether your name is difficult to pronounce or not, we encourage all HSC Canvas users to record their name. Below are quick start guides for both faculty and students.
