Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

The Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM) prides itself on making the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine the keystone to its campus.OMM strategically supports the growth and development of TCOM and UNTHSC, and our multifaceted faculty and staff diligently lead the school’s academic, clinical, research and service missions. Our departmental goals and objectives amplify the distinctive nature of osteopathic physicians and their role in delivering the highest quality health care to the citizens of Texas.

The educational responsibilities of the OMM department span the delivery of education to TCOM 1st and 2nd year DO students, a mandatory 3rd year CORE rotation, NMM/OMM Residents, TCOM OPTI GME programs, and CME programs for physicians. Our NMM/OMM three-year and our Plus One residency programs are top notch and sought after by highly qualified candidates.

Our collaborative and translational research program is involved in interdepartmental, interscholastic and interdisciplinary projects. From local funding of student and resident projects through NIH/NCCAM funded clinicians, our diverse program in osteopathic manipulation as it relates to biomechanics, aging, orthopedics, clinical and bench research is a leader in the national effort to enhance osteopathic medical education and research.

Clinical services in our Health Pavilion and our hospital consult service at Plaza Medical Center support the efforts of UNTHealth to care for the citizens of Fort Worth and the DFW metroplex. Our doctors see over 5200 patients yearly for common problems such as low back pain, headache, neck pain, strains and sprains. We garner the confidence of referrals for some of the hardest to treat conditions, such as complex regional pain syndrome and fibromyalgia. Our patient satisfaction ratings speak to the quality of our caring physicians.

Our department is poised for growth and ready to take on new academic, research and clinical challenges. We remain dedicated in our mission to promote the principles, philosophy and practices of osteopathy.
