HSC’s School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Marcel Satsky Kerr to the position of Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, effective immediately. This strategic promotion results, in part, from Dr. Kerr’s exceptional leadership as the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Education.

In her newly elevated role, Dr. Kerr will oversee the day-to-day academic operations of the SBS, focusing on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of academic processes for students, faculty and staff. This move aligns SBS with the organizational structure of HSC’s four other schools, enabling an Associate Dean to stand in for the Dean as this position shifts attention to more strategic and collaborative initiatives with the other deans and working to create partnerships in the community.

“I couldn’t be more delighted about Dr. Kerr’s promotion,” indicated Dr. Michael Mathis, Dean of SBS. “Her impressive track record, commitment to excellence in education, and tireless dedication to our faculty and students make her the ideal individual for this important position. I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of her leadership in this new role.”

Dr. Kerr will continue to direct the BS-BMSC program and supervise the undergraduate faculty in collaboration with the Department Chairs. As an active educator, she will maintain her faculty teaching role in the BS-BMSC program and Master of Medical Science program as a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience.

Upon the announcement, Dr. Kerr shared, “I am humbled and pleased to have the opportunity to serve in this new capacity and look forward to working with everyone to better align our efforts to meet our students’ needs and achieve our school goals.”

SBS expresses sincere gratitude for Dr. Kerr’s contributions in her past roles and extends congratulations on her new appointment.
