Free skin cancer screenings offered on Saturday
No appointments are necessary. The skin cancer screenings are open to people of all ages and are sponsored, in part, with the Dallas/Fort Worth Dermatological Society and the American Cancer Society.
David L. Grice, DO, a dermatologist helping spearhead the Tarrant County effort, said the program is set as a screening only, and will not offer treatment for those attending. Anyone found to have a suspicious skin lesion will be directed to a local dermatologist for further evaluation and appropriate treatment, said Dr. Grice.
Tarrant County-area dermatologists have volunteered to perform the screenings for the event.
Melanoma, the most common form of skin cancer, will affect nearly 60,000 people this year, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). With proper attention and treatment of localized melanoma, the five-year survival rate is 99 percent. About 80 percent of melanomas are diagnosed at a localized stage.
Typically the earlier a cancer is detected and diagnosed, the more successful the treatment, thus enhancing the survival rate, according to the ACS.

Free parking is available on both the east and west sides of the Patient Care Center building.
