This fall, UNT Health Science Center will introduce a new Master of Public Health (MPH) degree concentration in Maternal and Child Health.

“Demand for this program has been high,” said Dennis Thombs, PhD, Chair of Behavioral and Community Health and director of the new program. “This program prepares students for a career in public health, education, family planning, reproductive health services, mother/family nutrition programs, and other health and human services positions.”

The program is focused on preparing students for leadership roles to promote and improve the health of mothers, children and families, especially in underserved and disadvantaged communities. This interdisciplinary concentration studies the major determinants of maternal health and child health, along with strategies for improving the health of mothers and children through program planning and evaluation, research methods, and policy analysis at the local, state, national and international levels.
