Tanzi to speak on genetic causes of Alzheimer’s disease at April 30 conference
On April 30, Rudolph Tanzi, PhD and director of the Genetics and Aging Research Unit at MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases will be keynote speaker at the eighth annual Neurobiology of Aging Symposium at the UNT Health Science Center. Tanzi is the author of "Decoding Darkness: The Search for the Genetic Causes of Alzheimer’s Disease" and brings his vast knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease to students, faculty and the community who are interested in genetic links to Alzheimer’s.
The symposium, which will be held in Luibel Hall at the Health Science Center, begins at 8:30 a.m. with the keynote address at 12:30 p.m. Presentations by neurobiology fellows are scheduled throughout the day.
In addition to his position at the Department of Neurology, Massachusetts General Hospital, and as professor of Neurology (Neuroscience) at Harvard Medical School, Tanzi is the Joseph and Rose Kennedy Distinguished Professor of Neurology at Harvard University, and director of the Genetics and Aging Research Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Tanzi has been investigating the molecular genetics of human neurodegenerative and psychiatric disease since 1980 when he participated in the pioneering study at MGH that led to location of the Huntington’s disease gene, the first disease gene to be found by genetic linkage analysis. Tanzi focuses his studies on Alzheimer’s disease and autism spectrum disorders.
