RAD event celebrates UNTHSC research

More than 200 students, faculty and staff shared their scientific findings during the 22nd Annual Research Appreciation Day.

Topics ranged from cardiac function in childhood cancer survivors to the health challenges of women who are homeless.

The event attracted 500 attendees and highlighted the outstanding quality of research being conducted at UNT Health Science Center, said Thomas Yorio, PhD, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. There were 216 abstracts submitted.

“The 22nd Annual RAD was another success with a number of excellent presentations by students, fellows, faculty and staff,” he said.

The keynote speaker, Isaiah J. Fidler, DVM, Ph.D, spoke about his latest research on primary tumors that spread to the brain.

Dr. Fidler, Director of the Cancer Metastasis Center at UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, told the students that the future of medicine is based on the research they are doing now and they should not give up looking for answers.

“There is a reason for everything.” He said. “Nothing is random.”
