Forum to focus on new ways to improve patient care

The UNT Health Science Center’s Primary Care Research Institute (PCRI) will host the second annual NorTex Convocation of Practices: Translating Research into Improved Patient Care forum on Saturday, Oct. 2, followed by a mini-health fair on Oct. 9. The conference, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the new Medical Education and Training (MET) Building, is for researchers and clinical practitioners and will address primary care and ongoing research.

Conference speakers include PCRI Director Roberto Cardarelli, DO, MPH (’01); PCRI Associate Director Kimberly Fulda, DrPH; José Pagán, PhD, chair of the School of Public Health’s Department of Health Management & Policy; Brian Gladue, PhD, director of the Office for the Protection of Human Subjects (OPHS); and Nellie Butze, RN, director of Compliance and Privacy, UNT Health Business Services.

On Oct. 9, the mini-health fair, hosted for PCRI research participants and families, will feature information on asthma, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and other health topics. It will be from 9 a.m. to noon in the Atrium of the Education and Administration (EAD) Building. In addition, Health Science Center students will provide blood pressure readings, Body Mass Index (BMI) calculations (a statistical measure of body weight based on a person’s weight and height) and other health screenings.
