Prerequisites to the RN to BSN program

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing: In many cases, you will need to have completed an ADN or a nursing diploma program and hold a valid registered nurse (RN) license.
  • RN Licensure: You typically need to prove you have an active and clear RN license in your state or region where you intend to meet clinical requirements.
  • Transcripts: You will need to submit transcripts from your previous nursing education in order to demonstrate successful completion of nursing courses.

UNT Health’s RN to BSN Core Courses and Prerequisites Include:

Completion of required College of Nursing prerequisites with a grade of “C” or better by time of enrollment. (Some may count toward being Texas Core Complete.) The prerequisites include the following:

  • Anatomy & Physiology I (lab required; TCC 030) – 4 SCH*
  • Anatomy & Physiology II (lab required; TCC 030) – 4 SCH*
  • Microbiology (lab required; TCC 030) – 4 SCH
  • Nutrition – 3 SCH
  • Introduction to Psychology (TCC 080) – 3 SCH*
  • Lifespan Growth and Development – 3 SCH
  • Statistics – (any College level of at least 3 SCH; TCC 020) 1*
  • U.S. History I (or TCC 060 equivalent) – 3 SCH*
  • U.S. History II (or TCC 060 equivalent) – 3 SCH*
  • U.S. Government (or TCC 070 equivalent) – 3 SCH*
  • Texas Government (or TCC 070 equivalent) – 3 SCH*
  • English Composition I (or TCC 010 equivalent)– 3 SCH*
  • English Composition II (or TCC 010 equivalent) – 3 SCH*
  • Creative Arts (TCC 050) – 3 SCH*
  • Language, Philosophy and Culture (TCC 040) – 3 SCH*

– RN to BSN students must transfer in 60 SCH including credit earned for their Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) to be applied to the 120 SCH required to confer the BSN degree.
