Sexual Assault Support Resources

The safety and security of all students is of paramount concern to the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. Through the teamwork of the university and campus community, the HSC consistently strives to be among the safest college campuses in Texas. It is the policy of the HSC to provide an environment conducive to an educational mission; thus, any conduct that is prohibited by state, federal, or local law is subject to discipline under the provisions of policies stated in the Student Code of Conduct & Civility and other institutional general policies.

The Violence Against Women Act, reauthorized in March 2013, requires institutions of higher education to educate students on the prevention of rape, acquaintance rape, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Primary prevention, awareness programs, reporting procedures, and a video regarding sexual assault, misconduct and related offenses can be found at https://www.unthsc.edu/title-ix/

Reporting Prohibited Conduct

Students are encouraged to inform the Title IX Coordinator of all reports or knowledge of suspected incidents of sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, or stalking.  The report should include all information concerning the incident known to the reporting person including whether the possible victim has expressed a desire for the report to remain confidential. Dr. Maureen McGuinness serves as the HSC’s Title IX Coordinator and is located at Student Services Center Suite 160 and can be reached at 817-735-5919; Maureen.Mcguinness@untsystem.edu; or https://unthsc.edu/titleixreportingform.

Anonymous Reporting

Anonymous reports can be made through the HSC Trust Line, a third-party reporting line.  The Office of Integrity and Awareness will be notified that a concern has been documented and will review.

Confidential Reporting

Students gathering general information, seeking guidance, or filing a complaint may be concerned about the confidentiality of the information they are sharing. Confidential employees, such as licensed counselors or healthcare professionals, have legally-recognized confidentiality protections and will not share information that would violate the student’s expectation of privacy without the consent of the student.  Students have the option to report confidentially through the university’s student support service, TELUS Health, 866-743-7732, or https://us.myissp.com

Confidential reports can also be made to resources outside of the university.  Those resources are as follows:

Licensed employees who become aware of alleged sexual misconduct while operating outside the confidential aspect of their work are not confidential employees with respect to that particular incident and have the same duty to report as a non-confidential employee.
