Nov 7th Center for Human Identification Seminar: “Forensic Prediction of Appearance from DNA: Science or Fiction?”

November 7th, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, CBH 230

Presented by Dr. Angela Van Daal on behalf of the Center for Human Identification:

The identical appearance of so named twins has long hinted at the possibility of predicting physical appearance by genotyping a DNA sample. This notion of phenotyping has obvious applications to the forensic field where it could be used to provide investigative information about a perpetrator or victim when identification by other means is not possible. A US company has described several applications of phenotyping to assist criminal investigations. The concept has recently gained exposure in the wider scientific community with work from Craig Venter’s research group at Human Longevity.
