COVID-19 update

HSC Team:

The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth is shifting from a 14-day COVID-19 quarantine to a 10-day period based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The HSC Reopening Committee continually monitors updates from the CDC, including evolving quarantine options during this pandemic.

The revision follows a review by the HSC Reopening Committee of concerns from faculty about the 14-day quarantine’s impact on students.

Students have faced a heavy academic burden after missing too many in-person labs or workshops under a 14-day quarantine, according to faculty. Thus, the adjustment was made.

Specifically, the revision states quarantine at home should last 10 days after the last contact or seven days after last exposure with a negative test result occurring on day six or later.

The latest changes to campus rules follow CDC guidance that outline a 14-day quarantine option, while also allowing for a shorter 10-day quarantine to lessen the economic burden on families and stressed public health systems.

We will continue to track any new guidelines or recommendations. More information about HSC’s COVID-19 campus guidelines is available online.

Thank you,

HSC Reopening Committee
