Be The Match Marrow Donor Registry Drive!

MARROW DONOR REGISTRY DAYS- break a world record!

In 2009, Chris Betancourt was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia and was on his way to recovery after experimental treatments. Recently, he received a call from his doctor with bad news- his cancer had returned. This time, the cancer is a new mutated string, resilient to most of the experimental drugs he had used before. He remains hopeful and has created a bucketlist of items he wishes to achieve. One item is #LemonsForLeukemia, challenging others to creatively make lemonade and film it for leukemia awareness. The other is to break the world record for marrow registrations around the country on March 1st! More info here: https://mybestfriendslist.com/world-record

Please join the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) and Pathology Interest Group (PIG) as we set out to encourage members of the UNTHSC community to register with the Be The Match marrow donor registry!

A table will be set up in the lobby of the LIBRARY next to Java Lab for these upcoming dates:
Wednesday, February 28, 9AM-2PM
Thursday, March 1, 9AM-2PM – *World record day!*
Our volunteers will be collecting buccal swab samples from individuals interested in becoming donors as well as answering any questions potential registrants may have. In addition, we will be handing out lemonade to support #LemonsForLeukemia on Thursday. Come by to learn about marrow donation!
