Steve Sosland to join Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

President Michael Williams sent this email to all team members on Nov. 7, 2017:

Team,

It’s with mixed emotion I am writing today to announce that Steve Sosland, our Chief People & Performance Officer, is leaving UNT Health Science Center to lead a values-based culture at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He begins his new duties on January 16, 2018.

Since coming to UNTHSC in 2013, Steve has had a transformational impact on our campus and our team. Under his guidance, we created the Office of People Development and undertook a values journey that helped establish common, core beliefs that guide us daily in our roles at the Health Science Center.

He was instrumental in the formation of some of our most critical initiatives, including the Valubility and Best Place for All programs. He helped us integrate values into our hiring process, and led in the creation of the Leadership 125, Inspire, and HSC Fellows leader-development programs. Steve also introduced coaching as a leadership function to eventually replace annual reviews and has been an ardent advocate for our shared vision of One University, built on values, defining and producing the providers of the future.

During his time here, Steve has been driven by the conviction that our world is a better place when more people commit to living a life based on values. His greatest strength is in identifying key leaders, starting the change process and initiating programs to make the change permanent.

He leaves us now well positioned to achieve our visionary goal of establishing a sustainable people culture. I am grateful for his leadership and friendship.

Although we are sorry to lose Steve’s inspirational leadership and wise counsel, he leaves us with the unique opportunity to accelerate the people development activities we’ve begun during the past four years.

Please join me in thanking Steve for his immeasurable contributions in focusing resources on development of faculty, staff and administration.

My best always,

Mike
