Re: Dean Search for the School of Public Health

I am pleased to announce the official launch of a national search for a new Dean of the School of Public Health (SPH). This is a profoundly important endeavor as the Dean is responsible for pursuing distinctive excellence in all aspects of the School’s mission. Working collaboratively with leaders within and beyond SPH, as well as external partners, the Dean advances world-class innovation and excellence that defines the School’s programs.

We will coordinate the recruitment process alongside Dean Dennis Thombs’ retirement plan with an anticipated start date of September 2022. I am in the process of appointing a search advisory committee, as well as an external advisory panel to inform the search process. More information will be shared once these plans are finalized.

I will begin the search process by conducting listening sessions with students, staff and faculty to glean input regarding the profile of our next SPH Dean. We will be sending out invites soon with the days/times of the listening sessions, so please plan to attend as your input is critical in this process.

We look forward to bringing in a new Dean who will build on the momentum and successes derived from Dr. Thombs’ leadership over the past five years and will articulate a compelling vision for the future of the School of Public Health.

I would like to thank all members of the School of Public Health and HSC community for your support and assistance as we work to identify our next outstanding leader. If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at Charles.Taylor@unthsc.edu.
