Making the Most of Small Group Learning

In this one-hour session, we will explore the benefits of and barriers to working with students in small groups. Moreover, participants will be introduced to several structured protocols for promoting productive small group discussions. Workshop participants will leave with resources that can be easily and readily applied to future teaching and learning experiences.

Participants will:

learn about structured protocols;
use structured protocols; and
leave with resources for future use.

Dr. McGhee teaches in the Educational Leadership program at TCU where she helped to establish an innovative principal preparation program (Principal Leadership Fellows) with local public school districts. She is also the Director of TCU’s Center for Public Education. Formerly, she taught at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon and at Texas State University where she was also the co-director of the National Center for School Improvement. In addition to her work promoting the instructional value of school librarians, library media centers, and information literacy, Marla’s research and publishing interests include instructional supervision and leadership, action research as a school improvement tool, campus leadership for literacy learning, and the role of the contemporary school leader. She holds two degrees from Texas Tech University and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
