Cancer continues to pose a challenge to the public. It has become a global epidemic, causing 8 million deaths per year. More than 100 types of malignancies are diagnosed in patients, some of which are highly aggressive with a 5 year survival rate as low as 5%. Clinicians and researchers are still struggling to develop precise tools for early diagnosis and improving the prognosis, especially in patients diagnosed at an advanced stage. Current research using sophisticated technology is providing some hope. It is imperative that ICR members are conducting cutting edge research on identification of strategies to improve diagnosis and therapeutic responses. These research efforts can be further strengthened by establishing productive collaborations. This symposium serves as a platform to bring together cancer researchers in the North Texas area to interact, share their research expertise and fostering collaborations.
