Hearing loss volunteers aged 60+ needed for a research study

The Physical Therapy Department at UNTHSC is recruiting healthy volunteers without hearing loss aged 60 or above to participate in a research study titled “The Effect of Hearing Loss on Balance.” The Principal investigators are Dr. Nicoleta Bugnariu and Dr. Victoria Kowalewski. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between hearing loss and balance and to evaluate the effects of different types of hearing aid technologies on balance and gait. Study participants will be asked to complete cognitive and sensory testing; as well as hearing, balance, and walking tasks. Some balance and walking tasks will be completed on a treadmill in a virtual environment. Participation involves 2 visits, for a total of no more than 6 hours. Both visits are scheduled at the UNT Health Science Center. Compensation will be provided.
